Esus Centre

Esus Centre is Australia’s first integrated eating disorder day hospital and outpatient service, delivering evidence-based multidisciplinary care for adolescents and adults in an intensive outpatient setting.

Since embedding routine outcomes measurement in 2024, Esus has used patient-reported and clinical outcomes to support transparency, service improvement, and care that matters to patients and families. Esus is proud to be the first healthcare organisation in Australia to receive ICHOM Level 1 Accreditation and the first mental health organisation in thw orld to be accredited.

Data Impact Story

Esus Centre’s 2025 routine outcomes data showed meaningful improvement across both adult and adolescent intensive day programs. In adults, patients showed significant improvement in eating disorder psychopathology, psychosocial impairment, depression, and anxiety. In adolescents, patients showed significant improvement in eating disorder symptoms and depressive symptoms. These findings support the impact of an integrated hospital-substitution model for eating disorder care.

Patient Impact Stories

At Esus Centre, patient impact is reflected not only in quantitative outcomes, but in how patients describe the experience of care. Across anonymous feedback, patients consistently describe the service as a meaningful alternative to inpatient admission, one that combines structure and intensity with the opportunity to apply recovery skills in everyday life.

One patient described the program as “a great alternative to inpatient treatment” and said it was “very needed in Perth.” Another shared, “My rating would be 10/10; it is a very hands-on and involved experience, and I did enjoy it and am on the path to getting my life back thanks to the program.” A further patient reflected that, “This program provides you with the structure, support, and services you get as an in-patient, but it also then puts it back on you to apply what you have learned and implement it into your life.”

Patients also emphasised the quality of the therapeutic environment and the consistency of the multidisciplinary team. One respondent wrote, “The consistency and dedication of the team across the board means that I am able to absorb the information presented to me. The team respects me as an individual and creates a very warm, welcoming environment.”

Together, these accounts reinforce what Esus Centre’s outcomes data suggest: that integrated day treatment can be both clinically meaningful and deeply humane, helping patients build recovery in the settings where life actually happens.

Receiving ICHOM Level 1 Accreditation is both a privilege and a responsibility for Esus Centre. From the beginning, we have believed that healthcare services should be transparent about the outcomes they achieve and accountable for the value they deliver to patients and families. For us, this recognition validates our commitment to measuring what matters, embedding outcomes into everyday care, and helping lead the shift toward value-based healthcare in Australia.”
