ICHOM partner Tawuniya has contributed to new research highlighting how standardized patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) can help improve outcomes and support value-based healthcare in Saudi Arabia. Published in the Journal of Nature and Science of Medicine, the study evaluated the implementation of the ICHOM Low Back Pain Standard Set across insured patients receiving treatment for low back pain.
The findings demonstrated significant improvements in pain, functional status, quality of life, and return-to-work outcomes over a six-month period. Patients reported substantial reductions in pain scores and disability, while all working participants who had taken time off due to low back pain had returned to work within six months. The study also highlighted the value of linking patient-reported outcomes with healthcare cost data, providing important insights into the delivery of high-value, patient-centred care.
This work reflects Tawuniya’s commitment to advancing value-based healthcare and demonstrates the growing impact of ICHOM Sets in supporting better outcomes for patients while informing more effective healthcare decision-making
