Tshiamo Health implementation update – learnings from Kenya’s Lea Mama programme
Kenya’s Lea Mama’s value based care maternity programme—supported by Tshiamo Health, demonstrates the power of early collaboration between providers and insurers. Phase 1 of the Programme focused on service redesign selecting high quality maternal care providers, and leveraging ai-enabled health education and care navigation to drive maternal adherence to evidence-based pathways. The package of care and services delivered were aligned with agreed programme indicators.
Phase 2 of the Programme focused on trust building between providers and the insurer to enhance data sharing, and collaborate on designing appropriate value metrics and an incentive-linked value contract. Results at 18 months show positive directional shifts: 76% first-trimester antenatal care initiation, zero maternal deaths, zero 30-day maternal readmissions, 0.7% neonatal ICU admissions and a 4% overall reduction in maternity claims compared with baseline.
