ICHOM President and CEO Jennifer Bright will join healthcare leaders, policymakers and advocates in New York on 24 September for a panel exploring how a shared definition of value could help transform brain and mental health care.

The session, “Building a Shared Definition of Value in Brain Health,” forms part of the European Brain Council’s programme taking place alongside the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Bringing together perspectives from across healthcare and lived experience, the panel will examine what value means to clinicians, payers, health systems, policymakers and, crucially, people and families living with brain and mental health conditions.

The discussion will consider how health systems can move beyond measures focused primarily on activity and cost towards a more person-centred understanding of value – one that considers outcomes such as function, dignity, quality of life and long-term wellbeing.

This closely reflects ICHOM’s mission to unlock the potential of value-based healthcare by defining and advancing the outcomes that matter most to patients. Establishing a common language around value and outcomes can help align stakeholders, inform investment and support more meaningful measurement and improvement across health systems.

Jennifer will be joined by Dr. Devdutta “Dev” Sangvai, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services; Amol Deshpande, CEO of Frontera Health; and Russell Lehmann, mental health and disability advocate. The discussion will be moderated by Susam Armiger, CEO of The Catalight Group.

The panel takes place on 24 September 2026, from 11:40am–12:30pm EDT at the CURE building in New York City.
