Bladder cancer is more than a diagnosis. For patients and their families, it can bring fear, uncertainty and profound changes to everyday life. Treatment may involve surgery, intravesical therapies, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and, in some cases, removal of the bladder and living with a urostomy. Behind every clinical decision is a person whose experience matters.
Fundación Proyecto Cáncer (FUPROCER) is a Colombian organization dedicated to generating knowledge and awareness about bladder cancer and giving greater visibility to the experiences of patients and their families.
Founded in Colombia in 2024, FUPROCER seeks to make reliable health information more accessible while creating spaces where patients, families and healthcare professionals can share knowledge and experiences.
Our work includes educational initiatives, patient stories, conversations with healthcare professionals and awareness campaigns focused on bladder cancer, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and life after treatment.
Through these activities, FUPROCER creates opportunities for patients and healthcare professionals to come together, ask questions and discuss the realities of living with bladder cancer. We believe that these conversations are essential because the impact of cancer extends far beyond the clinical diagnosis.
Patients also want to understand what their treatment means for their everyday lives: their physical wellbeing, relationships, work, emotional health, independence and quality of life.
This is why the patient voice is central to our work.
We believe that patients should not only receive information about their disease. They should have opportunities to express what matters to them, ask questions, understand their options and participate meaningfully in conversations about their care.
For FUPROCER, connecting the experiences of Colombian and Latin American patients with the international healthcare community is an important part of our mission. Sharing these experiences can help make the challenges faced by people living with bladder cancer more visible and contribute to a broader understanding of what meaningful, patient-centred care should look like.
Our motto, “Transformando el miedo en esperanza” — “Transforming fear into hope,” reflects our approach.
Hope does not mean ignoring the challenges of cancer. It means providing knowledge, creating awareness, listening to patients and helping people feel less alone throughout their journey.
FUPROCER is committed to continuing this work in Colombia and contributing to an international community where the patient voice is heard, valued and reflected in the way healthcare is designed and delivered.
