Data Impact Story: Data Teams Can Trust and Act On

KFSH collects the full ICHOM Cataracts Set in routine care, using the data model of the French National Cataract Registry so that its results can be compared against an established international benchmark. Data integrity is built into the process: clinicians cannot enter or alter patients' answers, and records are audited internally against their paper source and independently by an external partner. Results are reviewed on dashboards that show patients' health gain against their baseline, grouped by case-mix severity, with each surgeon's outcomes shared openly with colleagues.

Patient Impact Story: Patients Shaping the Program

With no validated Arabic version of the Catquest-9SF available, the team translated it in-house with the developer's permission and reviewed every question with cataract patients before using it in care. A member of KFSH's Patient and Family Council joined the implementation team from the start, advising on how the questionnaire reads to someone without a medical background, when it should be sent and how it is explained. He attends the team's quarterly meetings and is consulted on any change to the care pathway.

Measuring what matters to patients changes the questions we ask about our own care. Asking patients, in their own language, how surgery has changed their daily lives gives our teams an honest view of where we stand and where we need to improve."
