ICHOM Releases Newly Endorsed Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Set
ICHOM is pleased to announce the release of the newly endorsed Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Set of Patient-Centered Outcome Measures, designed to support consistent, patient-centred outcomes measurement for adults (18+) living with all types of Multiple Sclerosis.
The MS Set was externally developed by St. Antonius Hospital, Department of Value-Based Healthcare, under the supervision of neurologist Dr. Stephan Frequin and Prof. Dr. Paul van der Nat, and subsequently underwent an intensive internal ICHOM review process. This ensured full alignment with ICHOM’s standards for methodological rigor, harmonization, and real-world usability across its global portfolio of Sets.
Development of the Set was led by 17 clinical and methodological experts from eight countries, alongside patient focus groups involving 30 people living with MS. The process combined a comprehensive literature review with a RAND-modified Delphi methodology, ensuring the Set reflects both the evidence base and patient priorities.
As Kirsten Daniels, MSc, Project Lead, noted:
“The endorsement process helped transform a robust, evidence-based set into a Reference Guide that is practical and easy to use. Through ICHOM’s reach, I hope it will inspire healthcare professionals and institutions worldwide to adopt the set, helping to improve outcomes for people with MS.”
The finalized Multiple Sclerosis Set and Reference Guide are now available on the ICHOM website and can be accessed here.
