The International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) is delighted to announce the manuscript publication in seven leading cardiology journals of the ICHOM Heart Valve Disease (HVD) Set of Patient-Centered Outcome Measures. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in value-based healthcare, shifting the focus from procedural success to what truly matters to patients.
Heart valve disease remains a major global health challenge, affecting millions each year. Despite its prevalence, awareness and timely intervention remain inadequate, leading to avoidable deaths and complications. The new HVD Set, developed in collaboration with international experts and patient representatives, aims to change this by providing a standardized, patient-focused framework for measuring treatment effectiveness.
This Set has already gained endorsement from leading global cardiology organizations and has been simultaneously published across seven major cardiology journals, underscoring its scientific significance and broad-reaching impact. The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the support of organizations such as the American College of Cardiology (ACC), American Heart Association (AHA), European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), among others, whose backing reinforces the importance of standardized outcome measures in improving patient care.
Jennifer Bright, President & CEO of ICHOM, emphasized the impact of this initiative:
“This marks a major step forward in defining meaningful patient outcomes. By standardizing these measures, we empower clinicians, researchers, and policymakers to drive real improvements in care quality and patient well-being.”
We extend our gratitude to our Set sponsors, Edwards Lifesciences and Adetec, and our Cardiometabolic Family of Sets Updates sponsor, Novartis, for their support in driving this important initiative forward.
ICHOM remains committed to collaborating with healthcare leaders and institutions worldwide to implement these standards and improve care.
