Valor Saúde Brasil Initiates ICHOM Project Nationwide

Wednesday, 27 March 2024 / Published in News

In recent years, Brazil’s healthcare landscape has undergone a remarkable transformation, marked by a profound embrace of Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) principles. This shift has been redefining the traditional healthcare paradigm, placing a heightened emphasis on outcomes, efficiency, and patient-centric care. As this movement gains momentum, it’s crucial to recognize that they’re at the dawn of a transformative era in healthcare.

Valor Saúde Brasil have led the way in VBHC, propelling Brazil into a new era of excellent healthcare and raising the bar for healthcare across the nation. As of 2024, Brazil’s healthcare sector has witnessed a significant evolution, with 20 leading hospitals nationwide integrating ICHOM standard sets. This shows their strong dedication to improving patient care and kickstarting a big change in how healthcare is done. Now, they’re focused on spreading these improvements across all of Brazil’s healthcare system.

It all started with an award ceremony on December 2023, signalling the launch of a new partnership between Valor Saúde Brasil and the International Consortium for Health Outcome Measurement (ICHOM). This collaboration introduced BEL, an innovative technology integrated into Valor Saúde Brasil, tailored for implementing ICHOM sets. In recognition of their leadership status measured by Valor Saúde Brasil platform, 57 distinguished institutions received technology and consulting services for ICHOM set implementation. By the end of February 2024, 20 healthcare institutions had already committed to implementing the sets.

The initiative was born from a vision to align Brazilian hospitals with global best practices, recognizing the imperative need for standardized outcome measurement. The mission was clear: to leverage ICHOM standard sets to revolutionize patient care. Central to their endeavor was the construction of a robust and standardized implementation project for our clients. While adjustments were anticipated during the implementation journey, our aim was to ensure comprehensive coverage of all necessary actions for successful implementation. This encompassed key steps such as aligning with high-level management, selecting appropriate sets, conducting data gap analyses, choosing measurements, constructing value chains for clinical care pathways, creating auditing checklists, establishing navigation processes, utilizing technology for PROMs collection, and addressing commercial aspects, all underpinned by the development and training of teams. An innovative aspect of the project involved creating analytics for selecting sets.

By utilizing the data available on our platform, we developed a framework for smart set selection. This process considered where clients could clearly see results. Clients were then able to choose suitable sets based on their expertise, volume, and expected return on investment (ROI), making optimized use of their own data. This bespoke approach ensured that the implementation was not a one-size-fits-all solution but a tailored strategy for success.

Implementing ICHOM standard sets across diverse healthcare settings posed significant challenges. However, this project unfolded as a collaborative effort between Valor Saúde Brasil and the visionary leadership of the 20 chosen hospitals, aiming to create a robust framework that enhances patient outcomes and streamlines healthcare processes. At the heart of this transformative journey lies the concept of Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC). Rooted in the belief that healthcare should prioritize achieving the best outcomes for patients, VBHC emphasizes the delivery of high-quality care at an optimal cost. By embracing VBHC principles and implementing ICHOM standard sets, we’ve fostered a patient-centric approach that prioritizes measurable improvements in health outcomes. The ripple effect of adopting ICHOM standard sets and embracing VBHC concepts is nothing short of revolutionary. Beyond immediate advantages, this strategic move serves as a market positioning tool, distinguishing institutions as pioneers in healthcare delivery and attracting a discerning audience seeking the highest quality of care.

As we reflect on this transformative journey, it’s evident that the implementation of ICHOM standard sets in 20 Brazilian hospitals has set a new benchmark in healthcare excellence. This not only serves as a testament to Valor Saúde Brasil’s achievements but also extends an invitation to other institutions ready to embark on a similar journey. By embracing VBHC principles and adopting ICHOM standard sets, the future of healthcare in Brazil is poised for unprecedented success.
